With the wildfire smoke rolling in and humidty high enough to soak our skins, it was just another day of National 'Go Skateboarding Day' in Virginia Beach, VA. From youth to old, first time riders to advid shredders, the street and skateparks were full of people making it known that June 21st was their time to make known their passion of skateboarding had an official holiday. The 17th Street Skate Team arrived at Mount Trashmore Skate Park around 11AM sharp to start off the 3-park surprise demo planned show off their expertise and give back to the fans for their ongoing support. Right away the team charged the street course and had kids watching in amazement while the Team Manager held a game of S-K-A-T-E between three kids for a free 17th Street skate deck. Thirty minutes later and a few giveaways later, the team piled into their rides and headed towards their second destination, Woodstock Skate Park in Chesapeake, VA. Upon arrivial, locals were antisapating their arrival and were rewarded with a few free t-shirt handouts and some 17th Street stickers. As soon as word got around the park about three free 17th Street decks, kids quickly got in formation at the top of the 5-stair for a Best Trick contest. The contest starting becoming intense as each skater started uping their game and defying the last man's accomplishments. Winner was rewarded with a deck and the team also handed out another deck to a little ripper whose deck snapped after a trae flip down the 10-stair. The sun began to vanish within the clouds as a storm progressed into our area. We knew the weather wouldnt last out on us for too much longer so we packed up the truck and headed to our final stop on 'Go Skateboarding Day'. The crowd at the Greenbrier Skate Park started to make way for shelter just as we pulled up due to an intense storm front, forcing us to pass out as much giveaways as we could then heading out to escape to fast lightening and heavy rains. All in all, this day was a success for all involved. We got to meet and hangout with some fun, exciting kids while celebrating the holiday right with the 17th Street Skate Team. As the evening turned into a washout, our goals were accomplished and the team parted ways only to think about how big next year's 'Go Skateboarding Day' will be...
